EMU Theatre

Rough Draught Theatre (a division of EMU) proudly announces its inaugural public performance consisting of readings of seven new 10-minute plays by local authors. A single performance will be held Saturday, November 26th, 3pm at the upstairs Continental Room of Louise's Downtown located at 1009 Massachusetts Street in Lawrence, Kansas. There will be a one dollar charge to enter.

Rough Draught Theatre is the new performing arm of the writers' workshop of Lawrence's E.M.U. Theatre. Rough Draught originated this season, (E.M.U.'s 14th), to not only offer its members an opportunity to have their work critiqued in bi-weekly meetings, but also to stage its writers' artistic output in varying and non-traditional theater spaces, as well as to prepare writing for submission to E.M.U. and other theatre companies. Six out of seven of the scripts from E.M.U.'s last production, "Horrorshow V- Last Call Of C'thulhu At the Old Arkham Saloon", were workshopped by Rough Draught.

The plays included in this performance:

1. St. Peter by Dean Bevan takes a humorous look at a popular uprising at the Pearly Gates.
2. The Death Of the Artist by Dan Born portrays two thugs debating whether an artist is the real McCoy or a fake deserving to be rubbed out.
3. Emilia's Lover by Feloniz Lovato-Winston shows a a brother and sister trying to make sense of their lonely mother's probable delusions of a new beau in her life.
4. You Are Free To Go by Alberta Mirais follows the inner monologues of the presenter and two of the attendees at a corporate presentation.
5. Tarnished Love by Diana Rockwell tells the story of a musician whose boyfriend returns from tour and reveals his infidelity.
6. Kuppolls Thairopee by Nick Stock examines a dysfunctional couple trying to resolve their differences with an even more dysfunctional marriage counselor.
7. Anti-Drug Commercial by Andy Stowers is a cautionary farce about not mixing drugs and religion in the bedroom.
