EMU Theatre presents "A Sharper Knife: A Collection of New Works Created by EMUXT: A Workshop in Experimental Theater Techniques"

The workshop featured an intense period of immersion in the works and techniques of prominent experimental theater artists.  Collaboratively written, this show utilizes the methods studied to retell the story of the The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson.

Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid is ruminated, ravaged, and remade using the techniques of Samuel Beckett's late minimalists works, Lee Breuer's Animations, Charles Mee's Re-makings, Richard Foreman's Ontological Hysteric techniques, the communal rituals of The Open Theater, and the randomness of The Dadaists.   Andersen's original tale of physical pain and self sacrifice in pursuit of immortality and the reward of heaven is twisted to new depths in six original theater pieces presented by EMUXT: a workshop on experimental theater techniques.

The show will be performed at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St, on Friday, January 20th and Saturday, January 21st at 8pm.  Ticket are $8 for General Admission, $6 for Students and Seniors, and can be purchased at the door the evening of the show.  This show is intended for mature audiences due to strong language.

So, come the Lawrence Arts Center and enjoy a delightful twist on an old classic as retold by local artists!  Disney princesses need not apply.
